Here As It Is In Heaven
“Here as it is in Heaven…”
Six words that defy what we think is possible.
Jesus prays them in the Lord’s prayer. And my challenge to you today is:
What if… What if… What if Jesus meant these words to be as fantastic and wonderful as they sound?
Think about how those words sound - ON EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN... What comes to mind when you think about that? (I encourage you to take a minute to just let that resonate before you read the rest of this post.)
It’s true to say that Jesus was praying that our Heavenly Father would make His name great and cause His Kingdom to come and will to be done… “here as it is in heaven.” But, most of my life, I have been lead to believe that the main purpose of this prayer was to make my heart obedient to God. And though that is a byproduct of what Jesus intended; our Lord will do something so much bigger than mere obedience through this prayer, if we’ll let Him. This prayer will broaden our horizons and lift the lid off of what we think is possible.
Here’s how… Jesus reveals His desire to bring heavenly love and joy into our lives time and again in scripture. And, time and time again, Jesus puts forth His passion (God’s passion) to bless us and to make us a blessing.
John 15:9, “Just as the Father loves me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love.”
John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes in Him should not parish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.”
John 15:11, “These things I’ve spoken to you that my joy may be in you and your joy may be full.
Matthew 15:30-31, “And great crowds came to Him, bringing with them the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute, and many others, and they put them at His feet, and he healed them, so that the crowd wondered, when they saw the mute speaking, the crippled healthy, the lame walking, and the blind seeing. And they glorified the God of Israel.”
John 15:12, “This is my command, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
Matthew 10:7-8 [Jesus said], “‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, so freely give.”
Jesus was clear about His mission on earth. His mission was to glorify His Father (John 17:1, Matt. 6:9-10). But, He glorified His Father by unleashing blessing, truth, and love on earth. What if by Jesus praying that His Father’s name would be made great, He meant that He wanted us to know God for who He truly is? The God of love who redeems the world. What if by asking that His Kingdom come, Jesus was praying that the truth, love, healing, grace, and the wonder of Heaven would take over this world? What if by saying “Your will be done,” Jesus was praying that the revolutionary love of God would change the world… that the blessing of Heaven’s love-waters would invade a thirsty mankind? What if we embraced God’s blessing of supernatural love and let it revolutionize our lives to overflow with heaven’s love in everything we do?
Great Redeemer, I pray that Your revival fire would come to every reader. Not a fire that would burn out. But a fire that would only grow as they burn with life in Your loving arms. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
What if we could experience much more of His Kingdom, much more of Heaven here than we thought we could? What if His Kingdom reigning in our lives is more supernatural than we think? Aftereall, didn’t Jesus mean what He said in John 16:7? What if we were willing to take a risk to see what God would do, and believe our impossible is possible with God (Matt. 19:26)?
Please understand, I don’t need miracles, or a prophetic word to believe in and worship God. But, what if they are simply a part of what He wants to do through His people for His glory?
What if by thinking that God actually desires to bless us with Heaven on earth, we broke the chains of merely interpreting this passage as meaning God wants us to live obediently… What if we let this prayer set us free to walk with God in obedience because we saw that His way actually fills us with heavenly life? And we’re only scratching the surface…
PAPA GOD, I ASK THAT YOU WOULD OPEN OUR BLIND EYES TO SEE YOUR GOODNESS, YOUR LOVE, AND ALL THAT YOU WOULD DO IF WE WOULD STEP INTO HEAVEN ON EARTH WITH YOU. IN JESUS’ NAME I PRAY. AMEN.
In case Heaven on earth is foreign to us… Here is a story of what will happen more regularly as we embrace His Kingdom on earth.
