Who Do You Give To?

When you give to your church, who do you give to? If you ask that question to people, you’ll get different answers. Some might say “to my church”, “to my Pastor”, “for the budget”, and so forth.

But what many Christians may not realize is that when they give to their home church, they are actually giving to God. Yes, to directly God. That’s what His word says.

Exodus 35:5, 21 "From what you have, take an offering for the Lord. Everyone who is willing is to bring to the Lord an offering of gold, silver and bronze... and everyone who was willing and whose heart moved him came and brought an offering to the Lord for the work on the Tent of Meeting [Tabernacle], for all its service, and for the sacred garments..."

I Chronicles 29:9 reads "The people rejoiced at the willing response of their leaders, for they had given willingly and wholeheartedly to the Lord!"

The tithe particularly is holy and set apart fort the Lord. He owns it. It’s His. We don’t “give” it to the church, we “return” it to God. We don’t decide what to do with it or where to give it – or we are being the Lord of the tithe. His instructions are to bring it to our local church (“the storehouse”, Malachi 3).

Leviticus 27:30 says “A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord."

Giving is important. It’s a big deal. It’s worship. It’s obedience to His instructions. And it’s an act of love that can change your life. When you realize that when you give, yes you do it AT our church but you give it TO God, it will change your giving perspective forever.
