Serve Others Because of What Jesus Did For Us

Imagine the most important, powerful, revered person standing in front of you. Now imagine that person, kneeling on the floor to grab a basin of water and a towel. Then he or she asks you to remove your shoes in order to wash your feet. You would likely respond the way the disciples did with Jesus. It would be awkward. It would feel “wrong”. Shouldn’t it be the other way around? Jesus, the most powerful person in every room he entered, set the most powerful example – by humbling himself to do the job of the lowest ranking servant. And so, as followers of Jesus, we are called to serve. We lend a hand to help someone else, not because we feel like it. Not because it’s convenient. And certainly not because it’s expected. We serve others because of what Jesus did for us. As you prepare for this week, ask God to help you grasp just how far He was willing to go to reach you. Let’s serve others because of what Jesus did for us.
